Dartmoor ponies have been bred in Dartmoor, Devon for hundreds of years. Poor grazing and harsh conditions on the moors have produced a strong, tough breed. Over the centuries, Arabian, Thoroughbred and Welsh Section A crosses have been used to improve the quality of the Dartmoor pony. It is a first-class childrens pony, strong enough to carry a heavy weight. They have good paces, jump well and have a good temperament. They can often be spotted by their very thick coat and long, shaggy manes and tails.
